They are a very Loving, Affectionate, Sensitive, Intelligent Gentle Breed of Dog and are always very eager to please and most are great with kids and elderly people and will love to welcome your visitors with licks and hug’s.

Most Greyhounds can be trained quite easily to Cats and Small animals

and yes you can get some that are not good with them because of their training,

but hey some of the regular dogs are like that as well,

some greyhounds will tend to chase and harm cats and other small animals.

   Others will simply ignore them.

They are not as demanding as other dogs and only need two walks a day with a run off the lead a couple of times a week. .

Greyhounds are good at being lazy and a lot of us like to call them couch potatoes  as they like nothing better than lying out on the couch for most of the day and they can sleep for up to 18 hours per day.

Just watch a Greyhounds expression and reaction to rain when you want to take  them for a walk and then you will see how much exercise they need  (and we all know how wet Ireland can be).

Because Greyhounds have short coats and lose very little hair they make suitable  Pets for people with allergies  and they do not need any special diet as they eat the same food as a regular dog.

And by the way Lurchers are just as great as Greyhounds to own!

They can be trained to small dogs and cats.

“She is moreover, gentle and kindly affectionate and never before had I a dog with such regard for myself.

When I am at home she remains by my side, accompanies me in going abroad, follows me to the gymnasium and while I am exercising myself, sits down near me.

At meals she pats me with one foot and then the other, to remind me she is to have her share of the food. Nothing is as helpful as a soft warm bed.

It is best if they can sleep with a person because it makes them more human and because they rejoice in the companionship of human beings".

 GREYHOUNDS make GREAT PETS:

A huge amount of Greyhounds never make the grade for racing and many more are retired due to injuries or lack of speed and age.

And the best news is that they make great pets and are very  popular all over Europe and the trend is catching on here in Ireland.

Just look at that face

They will find a comfortable position anywhere to sleep

The Greyhound, the great hound, the graceful of limb Long fellow, smooth fellow, rough fellow and slim.

You can travel o’er the earth, and sail o’er the sea But you will not find one more ancient than he.

The word “Grey” does not refer to their Colour,

But is an Old Saxon Word for a Running Dog.
